Happy Velentine’s Day!

by Laura Vroman The Valentine Chamber of Commerce hosted two Valentine’s Day events, Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds with the Raising of the Heart and the reintroduction of the Chili Cookoff. The day was sunny with a brisk wind but for a February day, it was pretty nice.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will hold a pre-construction public information meeting regarding improvements to U.S. Highway 83 (US-83) in Cherry County, Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Cherry County Fair grounds.

Aksarben accepting applications for 2022 Farm Family Awards

OMAHA-The Aksarben Foundation, along with Nebraska Farm Bureau and the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers, announces that applications for the Nebraska Pioneer Farm and Nebraska Heritage Farm Awards are being accepted now through April 15, 2022. These awards recognize Nebraska farm families who have consecutively held ownership of land in the same family for at least 100 years (Pioneer) or 150 years (Heritage), respectively.

Apply now to attend 2022 Nebraska Ag Youth Institute

LINCOLN – Apply now to attend one of the biggest youth agriculture outreach events in the state—the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI). NAYI brings together high school juniors and seniors to learn more about Nebraska agriculture, network with agriculture leaders and discover the many careers available in agriculture. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) helps sponsor and coordinate NAYI every year.

Continued good news for grasshopper risk on rangeland

The risk of grasshopper infestation in Nebraska rangelands will be low in 2022, with slightly higher risk in southwestern Nebraska, based on fall adult surveys conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS).
