Emergency Manager Matt Sandoz hosted a Meet and Greet for emergency responders, Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Valentine Fire Hall. The meeting was held to identify all available resources to meet the challenges that this summer can bring. There was discussion on radio communications, towers available and frequencies used.

The rain fell so hard, it was difficult to see for a while - even while wipers were going full blast. A swearing-in ceremony for Debra Hand as Clerk Magistrate of Cherry County Court was held April 26, 2022, in the Cherry County Courthouse in Valentine. Judge James Orr opened and hosted the ceremony.

The Community Services Program at Northwest Community Action Partnership (NCAP) will sponsor a Drive Thru Mobile Food Pantry with the Food Bank of the Heartland on May 24, 2022 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds located at 120 S. Green Street in Valentine from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

As part of its efforts to ensure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer months, Valentine Community Schools is pleased to announce its summer meals site will be serving kids and teens. Starting on May 23, all kids and teens 18 and under can receive lunches free of charge.

LINCOLN – Monday, May 2, 2022, Governor Pete Ricketts proclaimed May as “Beef Month” in Nebraska during a ceremony at the State Capitol. He was joined by Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Director Steve Wellman, Nebraska Beef Council Chairman George Cooksley, and Nebraska Cattlemen President Brenda Masek. At the news conference, Gov. Ricketts encouraged Nebraskans to take part in the 2022 Good Life Great Steaks Beef Passport program organized by the Nebraska Beef Council.

Cherry County Emergency Management has issued a burn ban that was effective as of April 16, 2022. The ban primarily applies to required permits for open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits were suspended until the burn ban has been lifted which occurred Tuesday, May 3, 2022..

North Central District Health Department, NCDHD, and the Area Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, ASAP, are announcing that Responsible Beverage Server Trainings will beheld. There is no cost for the training, however pre registration is required.

Nebraska Game and Parks has selected Jeff Fields as the agency’s new Parks Division administrator. Fields, a native of Tilden, began his new duties April 11.
