Boxes Of Joy! St. Mary’s Faith Formation Community Project

The children at St. Mary’s are gearing up for Christmas with a special project to help children in need through the Boxes of Joy Program. This year religious education students, kindergarten through ninth grade filled 25 boxes on November 3.

Changing role of Sawyer Memorial Library

An enduring entity for many years, Sawyer Memorial Library has changed and evolved to serve the children attending schools in Cherry County. From the start, Sawyer Memorial Library has been a unique organization.

Christmas bird count at Fort Niobrara and town of Valentine

There are three opportunities for people to participate in the Christmas Bird Count at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge and the town of Valentine. The first two will be divided into small groups and given a section to search, count, identify all birds.

Bell Ringers needed

Can you spare an hour or two to help the Salvation Army raise money to help families in need? Many spots are still open to ring the bells through December 24. Contact Lions Club member Shelley Pier at 402-322-5400 to get on the schedule. Ninety percent of the money raised stays in Cherry County.

Gov. Ricketts slams Biden-Harris Administration’s WOTUS overreach

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts issued a statement following news that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a redefinition of “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) within the Clean Water Act. By expanding the definition of WOTUS, the Biden-Harris Administration seeks to broaden its regulatory jurisdiction over the use of Nebraska’s water resources.
