It was a big birthday number. At least that’s how Addey felt. There were milestones she hadn’t reached yet and that felt sad. Her body felt heavy, sluggish, tired. Why We Give Thanks

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1 NIV We are sometimes tempted to think that we are self-made men and women, that we worked hard for everything we have and that we don’t owe anything to anyone. We couldn’t be more wrong.

Give thanks in all circumstances!

The apostle Paul once commanded a group of first century Christians, “Give thanks in all circumstances!” 1 Thessalonians 5:18a. Is that even possible? Paul then goes on to tell us the why behind this command: “for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you,” 1 Thessalonians 5:18b. But how can you give thanks when you are in lock-down for COVID-19? How can you give thanks when the money in your bank account runs out before the piles of bills on your kitchen table have all been paid? How can you give thanks when someone you love has died prematurely or unexpectedly? To give thanks in any of those situations, or a myriad of others we might mention, just does not seem to make sense, and may indeed seem impossible!
