Hello again, I hope the fall season is treating you well. The last time I wrote, we discussed how the ranching and farming business is dynamic, how you see your land every day and identify things that may need to be tweaked to make your operation more productive, efficient, and economically stable.

On 11/08/2021 at 1225 a.m., an officer was requested to respond to a residence regarding a sexual assault. The investigation is ongoing.

Oh Lord, it is so good to be back

Leaving after dialysis on November 1, Mary and I met her daughter, Lucy, in North Platte, who drove us to Lincoln. The purpose of the trip was to have tests to determine if I was a candidate for a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, a procedure claimed to be quite successful on elderly patients.

When the weather dips below freezing in Valentine, Nebraska, most of the city’s residents do their best to stay indoors as much as possible. But in 2020, roughly 108 community members volunteered to stand outside, braving biting winds and bone-chilling temperatures to ring bells asking for donations. Since the Salvation Army first began collecting donations in kettles in the late 1800s, the organization has relied on volunteers to do the bulk of its bell ringing.

City Council approves B Street storm sewer project

The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting, Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the City Library Meeting Room. The following individuals were in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Attorney Suzie Beel, City Manager Shane Siewert, Council members Kyle Arganbright, Kalli Kieborz, Neil Wescott, Dave Dent, and Ross Brockly.

Valentine and Cody- Kilgore schools enjoy longer Thanksgiving break

Valentine Community Schools had an early dismissal for their Thanksgiving break. They closed Wednesday, November 17, and will resume November 29. The extra four days will help stop spreading germs. All school activities and practices have been cancelled.

Fill an Empty Stocking and Share the Gift of Reading programs begin

Leo Brinda Post 90, the Sons of the American Legion and Unit 90 in Valentine are sponsoring the annual Fill an Empty Stocking and Share the Gift of Reading projects. Parents and guardians who wish to sign up their children need to fill out the forms at Union Bank & Trust on Highway 20 in Valentine on or before Monday, December 13.

FBLA focusing on the future of business

Since 2019, Valentine High School’s FBLA students have been hard at work focusing on the future of business in Valentine. FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. However, this year, FBLA means Feed Nebraska, Badger Den, Lollipops, and April State Leadership Conference (Competition).
