School has begun and youth have already met their teachers, for those of us who haven’t, let’s! Angela Anderson will be teaching eighth through 10th grade social science. She received her Bachelors in Education and Coaching from Chadron State College, and has an English Language Learners Second Language endorsement.

Planning Commission holds Open Houses

The Cherry County Planning Commission has held four open houses to hear input on their proposed Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations update. Wednesday, August 30, they were at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Thedford at 9:00 a.m., at the Valentine Public Library at 2:00 p.m. The next day they were at Nenzel Community Hall at 10:00 a.m. and at Winter’s Building in Hyannis at 3:00 p.m.

Valentine PD receives Safety Equipment Grant

The Spirit of Blue Foundation 501(c)(3) awarded the Valentine Police Department a Safety Equipment Grant, valued at $749.88, in the form of personal lighting devices for their officers. The Guardian Angel™ wearable safety lights are designed with a core belief that personal lighting technology will make the world a safer place.

Donate blood September 7 and help save lives

A diverse blood supply is important to ensure the needs of all patients are met. Blood given to patients with rare blood types must be matched very closely to reduce the risk of developing complications from transfusion therapy. The American Red Cross is committed to maintaining a diverse blood supply to ensure the right blood product is available at the right time, and every blood and platelet donor has an important role in meeting that need.

Ricketts exposes reality of electric vehicles for American consumers and industry

OMAHA – U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), the Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety, hosted policy experts and stakeholders to share more about the harmful impacts of the Biden administration’s emissions mandates that would require two-thirds of new cars and trucks be electric in just eight years.

Incidents/Arrests On 08/20/2023 at 5:00 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of East Highway 20. An 38 year old Valentine man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Revised wildlife predator statute took effect September 2

A revised statute allowing some Nebraska landowners to kill damage- causing wildlife predators becomes effective September 2. Predators included in this statute are badger, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, long-tailed weasel, mink, opossum, raccoon, red fox and skunk.
