South Dakota State announces fall 2025 Dean’s List

BROOKINGS, SD (01/23/2026) - More than 4,100 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the fall 2025 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the Dean’s List.

Wayne State launches new master’s degree

Jan. 22, 2026 (WAYNE, Neb.) – Wayne State has launched a Master of Science in Education (MSE) degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, which will open for professionals wishing to advance their career in Fall 2026. The new program was approved by the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees at its January 15 meeting in Lincoln.

While we are still early in the new year, it is time to start thinking about any spring annual forages that we might plant. Part of the process may be anticipating a need for extra feed or booking seed early for possible discounts.

LEASE AGREEMENTS verbal vs. written

If you’re renting farmland in Nebraska, there are a few lease options to think about. A lot of folks still use a verbal or handshake agreement and that’s fine however it’s good to know what happens when it’s time to end one. For cropland, the Nebraska Supreme Court says the lease year starts on March first. If a landowner wants to end a year-to-year verbal cropland lease, they need to give notice six months ahead that means by September first. Most people recommend that people send notice by Registered Mail, so you’ve got proof it was received.

Nebraska livestock sale barns ~ Strengthening rural communities

Lincoln, NE, January 26 — Social relationships build a sense of community and belonging. For farming and ranching, one of those communities is the livestock sale barns. Researchers at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln examined four Nebraska livestock sale barns to assess the social value these businesses provide to their patrons and surrounding communities. The study explored how social connections formed at sale barns contribute to personal well-being and facilitate the exchange of knowledge that influences farmers and ranchers both within the sale barn environment and beyond.

Midwest FEEDS Practicum offers handson training for beef producers across the production year
