School has begun and youth have already met their teachers, for those of us who haven’t, let’s! Angela Anderson will be teaching eighth through 10th grade social science. She received her Bachelors in Education and Coaching from Chadron State College, and has an English Language Learners Second Language endorsement.

The Cherry County Planning Commission has held four open houses to hear input on their proposed Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Regulations update. Wednesday, August 30, they were at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Thedford at 9:00 a.m., at the Valentine Public Library at 2:00 p.m. The next day they were at Nenzel Community Hall at 10:00 a.m. and at Winter’s Building in Hyannis at 3:00 p.m.

The Spirit of Blue Foundation 501(c)(3) awarded the Valentine Police Department a Safety Equipment Grant, valued at $749.88, in the form of personal lighting devices for their officers. A diverse blood supply is important to ensure the needs of all patients are met. Blood given to patients with rare blood types must be matched very closely to reduce the risk of developing complications from transfusion therapy. Incidents/Arrests On 08/20/2023 at 5:00 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of East Highway 20. An 38 year old Valentine man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A revised statute allowing some Nebraska landowners to kill damage- causing wildlife predators becomes effective September 2. Predators included in this statute are badger, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, long-tailed weasel, mink, opossum, raccoon, red fox and skunk.
