Sand Painter’s Art Club names BJ Roshone

Valentine, NE — The Sand Painter’s Art Club is proud to announce BJ Roshone as its October Artist of the Month. Roshone, founder of Wannabe Wandering Photography, is recognized for her ability to capture the spirit of the Sandhills through both photography and writing.

2025 Cherry County 4-H horse show results

The 2025 4 -H Horse Show was held on Tuesday August 5 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Chelsea Sallach was the judge for the day, and Ann Neiffer was her ring steward. The Trail judge was Howard White. Breakaway roping calves were provided by Clete Scheer, and the Working Ranch Horse cattle were provided by the Kenner Ranch. Hope Ramm from Little Bay Mare Photography was the photographer for the day.

One person’s junk…

“One person’s junk is another one’s treasure” means that something one person considers worthless or useless may be valuable or cherished by another person. We better understand that age-old statement after recently attending the 22nd annual Nebraska Junk Jaunt, which is literally a non-stop junk sale with vendors sporting their wares over a 300 mile road trip that circles through towns, villages and countryside in central Nebraska. Actually, we did not just “attend” the event, held annually on the last weekend of September, but we were one of the several hundred vendors, which was quite an eye-opening experience to say the least.

Vern and Marlys Walkling left last Monday for their trip to Niagara Falls, traveling the Canada route. They covered a lot of miles, enjoyed some beautiful sights and now have Niagara Falls crossed off their bucket list, returning home Saturday.

NSP Bomb Squad, National Guard handle grenades found in Lincoln

OCTOBER 1, 2025, LINCOLN, NE — The Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad and members of the Nebraska Air National Guard’s 155th EOD unit safely disposed of four grenades found in a home in Lincoln. Tuesday morning, a Lincoln resident found four old hand grenades among the belongings of an elderly family member.

During the week of September 28 to October 4, the following arrests were reported by the Valentine Police Department: • On September 28 at 11:45 PM, a traffic stop in the 100 block of West 3rd Street resulted in the arrest of a 33 year old Nebraska woman on the charge of Driving Under the Influence • On September 30 at 10:00 p.m., a traffic stop on West Highway 20 resulted in the arrest of a 34 year old Nebraska man on the charge of Driving Under the Influence. • On the morning of October 1 a complaint in the 200 block of North Main Street lead to the arrest of a 33 year old Nebraska man on the charge of Indecent Exposure.
