Congratulations to the Valentine and Cody-Kilgore High School Class of 2023

Valentine High School held their commencement Program, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Their class motto was: Chase your dreams, but always know the road that’ll lead you home again, Tim McGraw Their class flower was a red rose, with turquoise and gold as their class colors. Till You Can’t by Cody Johnson was their class song. There were 49 graduates from Valentine High School, of them, 22 were honor graduates and included: Ashlee Jo Bacon, Mekallyn Darae Bancroft, Taylor Ann Battershaw, Saylor Denne Renea Biltoft, Hanna Christine Bitner, Jaycie Grace Cox, Lainey Genne Egelhoff, McKenna Ann Elliott, Connor Fairfield Kreutner, Jack Matthew Lancaster, Ashton Joseph Lurz, Lee George Minford Major, Grace Althea Maunu, Casey William Miller, Malika Shae Amari Monroe, Logan Shadow Muirhead, Taycee Jo Reimers, Sheldyn Don Rodgers, Cole Frederick Simon, Gracey Rhey Taylor, and James Michael Woodraska.

Powerline safety important during spring planting

Columbus – Farmers are getting back in the field for spring planting season and Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is asking equipment operators to look up and look out for powerlines. Powerlines located along fields can pose a potential safety hazard for equipment operators who are not aware of their surroundings.

Electronics collection delayed until favorable market

NCRC&D has historically held the electronics collection annually in the spring. Locations have included: Atkinson, Spencer, O’Neill, Springview, Bassett and Valentine. Currently the market is not good, so it would cost more to take any items to be recycled.

Public service announcement on COVID-19 vaccines

Early last week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) announced changes in the use of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccinations. This announcement will allow these groups to receive a second Bivalent booster: • Adults 65 years and older.

VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, April 30 - May 6

Incidents/Arrests On 05/01/2023 at 7:04 a.m., an officer had contact with a 31 year old South Dakota man who wanted to turn himself in for an active Cherry County Warrant. On 05/02/2023 at 11:56 a.m., an officer had contact with a 40 year old Valentine man at 3rd and Hall Street.

BBB Scam Alert: BBB investigation reveals gunshop's false claims and unreliable practices

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has recently completed an investigation into JCS Gunshop, which operates under the domain name murdocksguns.com. The investigation was initiated due to a consumer complaint and subsequent inquiries made by 30 businesses about the company. The investigation found that JCS Gunshop made false claims about their operating location and displayed unreliable business practices.

Work to begin on US-183 South of Springview

Weather permitting, work was planned to begin May 15 on US-183 south of Springview, from reference post 207.11 to reference post 211.47, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Western Engineering Company, Inc.

Record number of students apply to attend 2023 Nebraska Ag Youth Institute

Lincoln – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) received a record-breaking number of applications from current high school juniors and seniors across the state to attend the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) this summer. NAYI brings together hundreds of students every year to learn more about Nebraska agriculture, network with ag leaders and explore career opportunities. This year, NAYI will be held July 10-14 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus.
