by Laura Vroman The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the City Library Meeting Room. The following were in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Manager Shane Siewert, Council members Kyle Arganbright, Kalli Kieborz, Neil Wescott, Dave Dent, and Ross Brockley.

According to VCS Superintendent Mike Halley, Blake Beebout has been selected as the next Assistant Principal/Activities Director for Valentine Community Schools. Blake’s current position is teaching Social Studies and serving as the Head Football and Head Track Coach at Valentine High School. Blake has been employed by Valentine Community Schools since 2007 and has served as the Head Football, Head Girls Basketball, Head Boys Basketball, and Head Track Coach throughout his career. Blake graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences 7-12 in 2007. Blake obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Chadron State College in 2019.

The Badger Effort Award is based on the school’s character education. Students who demonstrate Character In Action (CIA), responsibility, accountability, honesty, empathy, and respect were nominated by their classroom teachers and staff. Congratulations to the Valentine Middle School third quarter Badger Effort recipients!

The daffodil is one of the first flowers to spring forth and has been associated with Easter for that reason...it has a new beginning every spring - often before other flowers begin blooming. The trumpet could sound the new beginning for Christians as Jesus was raised from the dead Easter Sunday, taking all of our sins with him, for those who believe.

The Valentine Rotary Club presented the Cherry County Veterans Memorial Committee with a check in the amount of $1,250 to help with the construction of the Korean era and Vietnam era memorials. The money came from a $1,000 grant that was received by the Valentine Rotary through their district Rotary International that was matched with a quarter of the funds by the local Rotarians..

With 10.5 inches of heavy, wet, snow, Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14, 2021, a lot of tree limbs paid a price.
