We wanted to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to reschedule the Friends of the Library event, Sandhills and Sandlots: The Story of Rushville’s Modisett Ballpark, featuring Humanities Nebraska speaker Jeff Barnes that had been scheduled for September 22.

Wetland water conditions throughout the Rainwater Basin currently are better than last year but still variable across the state, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Many of the wetlands in the basin have dense stands of annual plants, which will provide good food for waterfowl but make the water more difficult for hunters to see.

WASHINGTON – The National Park Service today announced a proposed rule to expand bicycle and e-bike access and make it easier for visitors to enjoy America’s national parks. The proposal would remove unnecessary reviews and requirements for bicycle use across the National Park System, allowing NPS to manage its resources more efficiently and streamline the approval of new opportunities for visitors to use and enjoy their parks.

Hunters in the chronic wasting disease testing zone for 2026 deer hunting seasons are encouraged to order a free mail-in sampling kit before they head into the field. This year’s testing zone spans the archery, firearm and muzzleloader seasons and includes the Upper Platte, Plains, Pine Ridge, Sandhills, Platte, Frenchman, Buffalo and Republican units.

August 25, 2026 ~ Smith Falls State Park now offers all-terrain wheelchairs to help visitors with mobility challenges experience the beauty of the park in north central Nebraska. The park has two GRIT chairs, one for adults and one for children.
