Honor Bands and Choirs selected for 2024

Seven students from the VHS Music Department have been accepted into the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Music Festival. The UNK Music Festival consists of two bands and three choirs. Students had to audition and be accepted into the festival bands and choirs.

Friday, December 29, 2023, the Lady Badger wrestling team traveled to Winnebago, to participate in their invite. Results are as follows: 125 - Ariana Blume (15-5) placed 5th and scored 15.0 team points.

The Badger wrestling team traveled to Gothenburg, Thursday, January 4, 2024, and earned third place out of 21 total teams. Valentine Badgers vs. West Holt Huskies

The JV girls lost by 2 within the last minute of the game, moving their record to 6-1. The Lady Badgers took a hard hit from the Huskies. In 2021, the Lady Badgers won by 1; in 2022, winning by 2, the Badgers skimmed by the Huskies.

Nebraska Extension launching new program for meat processors

Lincoln, December 6, 2023 — A new Meat Processing Management Training program offered by Nebraska Extension is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals in the meat processing industry over a yearlong intensive course that will begin in March.

Participants in high school sports and performing arts are under tremendous pressure these days from parents, teachers, coaches, and peers. Their days are consumed with school, sports and activities. They are trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be – all while having to compare themselves to everyone else on social media. It’s easy to see why high school students have a lot on their plates, and their minds.

Surveillance detects 31 positive CWD cases

Chronic wasting disease surveillance conducted in central and north-central Nebraska during the November firearm deer season detected 31 positive cases in deer. There were 603 samples collected from harvested deer at check stations in the Sandhills, Keya Paha, Calamus East, Calamus West and Loup West Deer Management Units.

The Battle of HWY 20: the Badgers vs. the Bulldogs

On December 12, the Badgers hit the road to take on their rivals, the Ainsworth Bulldogs. The Lady Dawgs took a 12-9 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, it was a 4-point game, 20-16. The Lady Badgers put up a fight, but the Bulldogs pulled away, scoring 26-15 in the second half winning the game with a score of 46-31.
