Participants in high school sports and performing arts are under tremendous pressure these days from parents, teachers, coaches, and peers. Their days are consumed with school, sports and activities. They are trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be – all while having to compare themselves to everyone else on social media. It’s easy to see why high school students have a lot on their plates, and their minds.

Surveillance detects 31 positive CWD cases

Chronic wasting disease surveillance conducted in central and north-central Nebraska during the November firearm deer season detected 31 positive cases in deer. There were 603 samples collected from harvested deer at check stations in the Sandhills, Keya Paha, Calamus East, Calamus West and Loup West Deer Management Units.

The Battle of HWY 20: the Badgers vs. the Bulldogs

On December 12, the Badgers hit the road to take on their rivals, the Ainsworth Bulldogs. The Lady Dawgs took a 12-9 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, it was a 4-point game, 20-16. The Lady Badgers put up a fight, but the Bulldogs pulled away, scoring 26-15 in the second half winning the game with a score of 46-31.

Cody-Kilgore plays against Mullen and Colome

Friday, December 15, 2023, the Cowboys lost to Mullen with a score of 27 - 34. They played Colome, Saturday, December 15, and won with a score of 64-50.

Badgers host two day tournament, earn fourth place

The Valentine Badgers hosted their wrestling tournament, Friday and Saturday, December 15-16, 2023. There were 16 boys teams and Cozad took first place honors. Valentine placed fourth. Boys team scores are as follows: First place, Cozad, 223.0; second place, Winner Area, 202.5; third place, O’Neill, 180.0; fourth place, Valentine, 150.0; fifth place, David City, 139.5; sixth place, Amherst, 139.0; seventh place, Lexington, 138.0; eighth place, McCook, 78.5; ninth place, Chadron, 77.5; 10th place, Gordon-Rushville, 77.0; 11th place, Hershey, 69.0; 12th place, Gothenburg, 62.0; 13th place, Ord, 36.0; 14th place, Sandy Creek, 16.0; 15th place, Todd County, 3.0; 16th place, Ainsworth, 0.0.

Badger basketball results

The JV and Varsity basketball teams traveled to Mullen on December 5, 2023 to take on the Broncos. The JV girls are now 3-0. The Lady Badgers jumped out to an early 19-5 lead. The Lady Broncos put up a good fight with the Badgers but came out short, and the Badgers earned the W, 33-25.

Cody-Kilgore basketball results

Cowgirls: They came out on top of Arthur 47-40 Friday, December 8, 2023. The girls came out a little slow on points, but managed to fight for a win in the end. Saturday, the Cowgirls traveled to Stuart to face a tough team of physical athletes. The girls came out strong in the first quarter. They were able to put up 12 points to the Broncos 10. The girls were then unable to keep a lead, but fought through the game with grit. In the end, Stuart wins 51-35.

Cody-Kilgore welcomed Sioux County Warriors

Cody-Kilgore welcomed the Sioux County Warriors to town Thursday, November 30, 2023 for their first game of the 23-24 season. Cowgirls lost to the Warriors 52-67, while the Cowboys were victorious with a final score of 48-30.
