Radant participates in 19th annual Nebraska Lions High School All-Star Golf Tourney

Several top young Nebraska golfers competed in the 19th annual Nebraska Lions High School Senior All-Star Golf Tournament; held at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, June 28-29, 2021. The two-day, 36-hole tournament featured 14 girls and 15 boys invited from those all-class high school seniors who finished in the top 15 girls and top 12 boys in their respective classes at the State High School Golf Championships this past school year.

Nebraska State Fair 1868 Foundation

Grand Island, NE – The Board of Trustees for the Nebraska State Fair 1868 Foundation appointed three individuals to serve a threeyear term on its Board of Directors, bringing the total number of Board Members to nine.

Garwood participates in Youth Leadership Conference

Jenalee Garwood of Valentine attended the inaugural Nebraska 4-H Youth Leadership Conference at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey, July 1-3, 2021. Youth from across the state joined together at YLC to develop and practice their leadership skills, all while exploring traditional camp activities.

Cherry County Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament results

The annual Cherry County Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament was held July 22, 2021 and raised $15,125! The proceeds from this fund raising event will go toward the purchase of an Infant Panda Warmer for our hospital.

Area youth has Champion Carcass Steer at Junior National Show

Audrey Brawner of Wood Lake exhibited a market steer on the American Showdown National Junior Limousin Show and Congress held in Grand Island, July 7, 2021. The steer, a 56 percent LimFlex placed second in class in the live show and was the Champion Carcass steer. The steer was bred and raised by the Brawner family and had the following stats: Live weight of 1,461#, carcass weight of 920#, ribeye area of 18.25 sq. inches, .36 backfat, 5.36 IMF grading Choice minus with a yield grade of 1.56. The steer had a quality grade premium of $10/cwt and yield grade premium of $5/cwt. The sale price on the steer with premiums was $213.69/cwt for a total price of $1,966.85. There was a spread of $656.43 in value between the Champion steer and the steer with the least value.

Grove Trout Rearing Station closing temporarily to visitors

LINCOLN – The Grove Trout Rearing Station near Royal, will be closed to visitors until further notice due to upcoming expected high air temperatures in the area. Trout have been experiencing some health issues as the water to the facility has been warming.

Results of the annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament

The annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament was held at Frederick Peak Golf Club on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Chamber of Commerce Director Dean Jacobs said, “It was hot, but had a little breeze. Nobody keeled over, and we had 17 four person teams.”

Trev Alberts named new UNL athletic director

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced Wednesday, July 14, 2021, that former Husker All-American Trev Alberts will be its next athletic director. Alberts returns to the Huskers after serving as the athletic director for the University of Nebraska-Omaha since 2009.

Locals compete in Missouri River Freedom Race

Three local Valentine athletes competed Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the Missouri River Freedom Race, a 63-mile-long canoe and kayak race from Boonville to Jefferson City. Mike Huggins placed second in the men’s solo unlimited kayak division, making the 63-mile trek in just under seven hours (6:58:38).

Results from the 10th annual Andrew Claymon Memorial Fishing Tournament

The 10th annual Andrew Claymon Memorial Fishing Tournament was held at Merritt Reservoir Saturday, June 12, 2021, with 54 teams consisting of 124 youth and adult participants, competing for prizes in three divisions. The tournament is in memory of 16 year old Andrew Claymon who died of cancer July 5, 2010.
