Cherry County 4-H Achievement Celebration 2022

The annual Cherry County 4-H Achievement and Recruitment Celebration was held October 16, 2022 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. The afternoon kicked off with yard and board games. The Sexson family provided horse and buggy rides and the ever-popular cake walk was enjoyed by all. After fun and games, the afternoon culminated with a potluck supper and awards. The following honors were presented: Christen Larson-Malard, Wesley Willert, and James Walking were project grant winners and had displays available for the public to show how their grant money was utilized. These grants are provided each year by the 4-H Council.

Naslund receives Silver in Young Adult Bow Hunter Freestyle

The Nebraska 4-H State Outdoor Archery Championships was held in Grand Island, Nebraska this fall. Dylan Naslund of Cody, represented Cherry County 4-H very well again this year! He received the silver medal in the Young Adult Bow Hunter Freestyle division for targets and the bronze medal in the same division for 3-D.

NSAA Volleyball, Football Championships on Nebraska Public Media

Lincoln-November brings NSAA State High School Volleyball and Football championships to Nebraska Public Media. Volleyball championships are Saturday November 5 with Class D-2 at 9:00 a.m. followed by Class D-1 at 11:00 a.m., Class C-2 at 1:00 p.m., Class C-1 at 3:00 p.m., Class B at 5:00 p.m. and Class A at 7:00 p.m. All matches are live from the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Husker and Bluejay volleyball on Nebraska Public Media

Both red and blue volleyball fans can catch all the action when Nebraska Public Media televises Nebraska and Creighton volleyball home matches in November. Iowa travels to Nebraska for a match at 6:00 p.m.

Cowgirls come home victorious

The Cody-Kilgore Cowgirls traveled to Crawford High School where they took on the Lady Rams, Tuesday, October 18, 2022, and beat Crawford in three sets: 27-25, 25-17, and 25-18. They also won over Olerichs in three sets: 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. Friday October 21, the Hay Springs Hawks were in town, where they were victorious in all of their match-ups. JV Cowgirls went 1-1 on their day. Varsity squad fought hard but fell short in 3 sets: 18-25, 15-25, 21-25.

The Badgers win over Chase County 20-0

Coach Ian Bish said, “It was an exciting night and we knew that we controlled our post season destiny with a win. The boys flew around and made plays all night long. We controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball all night. It was a great team win and we are excited to play Hastings St. Cecilia in the first round of the playoffs.”

Cowboys bested by Hawks

The Cody-Kilgore Cowboys were bested by the Hay Springs Hawks, Friday, October 21, 2022 with a score of 28-34. Cooper Fay had 52 passing yards.

Springer earns seventh on the XC Leaderboard at VHS after competing at NSAA XC

Grant Springer ran at the NSAA State Cross Country meet held at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney. He finished 50th in a field of 116 runners. Grant brought home the following medals: second at Ainsworth, third at O’Neill, second at Gordon, fourth at West Holt, and seventh at District in Ogallala. Grant’s season best 17:58.6 places him 7th on the cross country leaderboard at Valentine High School.
