Use caution to avoid collisions with deer

Deer are more active this time of the fall. Crops are being harvested and deer breeding season is in full swing. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has suggestions to help drivers avoid deer-vehicle accidents and lessen the risk of injury or vehicle damage.

Springer qualifies for NSAA State XC

The Class C-5 District Cross Country meet was held at Crandall Creek Country Club in Ogallala. The top 15 from each district qualify for the state meet which will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney. Grant Springer qualified for state. As a junior, Grant was seventh at districts running his personal best time of 17:58.56. This is 12 seconds better than his previous personal best time which puts him seventh on the leaderboard.

The Friends of the Valentine Public Library are hosting a pumpkin decorating contest! Get creative and show off your skills. There are several age groups, and each one will be awarded a prize! • Youth below five years old.

Badgers host VB tournament

Saturday, October 15, 2022 was a home tournament for the Lady Badgers. Four teams competed, and here are their results.

Lady Badgers place seventh at NSAA State Golf

The Lady Badgers attended NSAA State Golf in Columbus, October 10 - 11, 2022 at the Elks Country Club. The Class C tournament consisted of the top 15 schools from across the state and Valentine ended with seventh place after shooting a team score of 390 and 397.

Lady Badgers are District Champions!!

Monday, October 3, 2022, the Lady Badges played at Four Winds Golf Course, in Kimball, for Class C District competition, and came home as Champions! There were 12 teams in the competition and Valentine placed first with 408 followed by Hershey in second place with 428; third place, Chadron, 440; fourth place, Perkins County, 464; fifth place, Gordon-Rushville, 479; sixth place, Mitchell, 484; seventh place, Bridgeport, 499; eighth place, North Platte St. Pat’s, 507; ninth place, Dundy County-Stratton, 524; 10th place, Kimball, 530; 11th place, Southwest, 550; and 12th place, Bayard, 599.

Shadbolt will represent Nebraska at PRCA Finals again

Merriman cowboy Garrett Shadbolt didn’t anticipate that he would go to the Wrangler Pro Cowboy’s Rodeo in Las Vegas as the 15th and last qualifier in the bareback riding. But, under the circumstances, he’ll take it.

XC team excels

The UNK meet was held Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Kearney Country Club. Both the boys and girls varsity teams ran. The boys class C race had 301 runners while the class C girls race had 182 runners. In all classes, both boys and girls, there were a total of 1,474 runners.

Lady Badgers play hard

October 4, 2022, the Lady Badgers hosted a triangular with Gothenburg,and Ogallala and were bested by both teams. The first game against the Lady Swedes, the Lady Badgers lost 1925, 9-25.

Badgers shut out Hershey 33-0

Friday, October 7, 2022, the Badgers hosted Hershey, and won with a score of 32-0. Coach Ian Bish said, “It was a great team with guys stepping up and filling in for guys that were out.
