Niobrara Valley Vineyard holds traditional Grape Stomp
Hail wasn’t going to steal the joy of grape growing in Nenzel, NE! So the Nollette’s turned what could have been “sour grapes” into a harvest festival with the inaugural grape stomp! Traditional methods were used and judged by the amount of juice that was squeezed out. At right is a white spigot where the juice falls into a pail and is measured. Clearly, this contestant had a good rhythm. Photos by Laura Vroman
Above, there was a fence to hang on to as the teams tried to get the most juice out in a five minute time span. Second from the left is Brock Moreland who was the timing judge.
After stomping, the contestants put their footprints on a clean, white T-shirt. After the festivities, the group were entertained by the music of the Silverado Band.
