    Sandhills Area Foundation donates to Miles of Smiles!

    The Sandhills Area Foundation was pleased to present a $1,500 grant to Miles of Smiles, a school based oral health program that was started by the North Central District Health Department in December of 2012. This program serves 35 elementary and middle schools within the nine counties served by NCDHD, which include: Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Rock, Keya Paha, Knox, Holt and Pierce. Miles of Smiles provides free oral health education, oral screenings, fluoride varnish, dental sealants and homecare supplies. The program costs the NCDHD about $10 per child, and they anticipate serving 750 Cherry County students.

    Results from the West Holt Track and Field invite

    The Badgers attended the 2022 West Holt invite Thursday, April 21, 2022. Individual girls results through 20th place are as follows: 200 Meter Dash - first place, Tacey From, 26.56; fourth place, Alivia Patterson, 27.71; eighth place, Malika Monroe, 28.74.

    April is Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness month and Sexual Assault Awareness month

    “The vast majority of us like to think that evil isn’t going to target us; yet 99 percent are going to be targeted by violence, either by watching it, or being a part of it. That includes right here in noman’s land,” said Valentine Police Chief Dana Miller. “It includes a lot of things...watching you get your butt whipped, or getting beat-up yourself. Most of the time it’s not the bad guy across the street; it could be someone you know or are living with.”

    Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, youth participated in a candy hunt at the Valentine City Park at 2:00 p.m. Hosting the event was American Legion Post 90. With winds gusting as high as 43 mph it made hunting for candy a cool, quick, endeavor.

    April is Child Abuse Prevention month otherwise known as CAP. It is a time to make the public aware of the prolific abuse that is going on in an underage child’s life.
