    Rooted in Hope:

    It was a beautiful spring afternoon in the Minnechaduza Creek Valley as Valentine Middle School seventh graders spread across Water Tower Hill on the edge of town, shovels in hand and purpose in their hearts. Hosted by the Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District (MNNRD), the annual tree-planting event brought students outdoors for a hands-on lesson in conservation as they replanted trees in the Big Rock Fire restoration area.

    Sons of the American Legion Benefit

    On April 17 the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 90, sponsored their annual hamburger and hot dog feed at the Vets Club in Valentine. A nice crowd of over 130, feasted on the burgers and dogs, with Kara Buechle supplying the baked beans on a cool evening.

    VMS Invitational results

    The Valentine Middle School Track Invite was held April 30, 2026. Originally scheduled for April 28, the meet was rescheduled, and only teams from Cody-Kilgore, North Central, and Ainsworth were able to join the Badgers on the new date.

    Badgers placed fourth at the SPVA Golf Meet

    “Congratulations to Parker Wackler and Tanner Two Strike on earning All‑Conference honors at the SPVA Golf Meet on May 1!,” said Coach Brooks Coleman. JV Results Team Score: 165, first place Nash Hesse, 38, first place Garrett Cumbow, 39, second place Reeves Witte, 44, third place Trevor Two Strike, 44, fourth place Aiden Hutchinson, 47, seventh place Brenden Battershaw, 59 The boys Golf Team competed at the Quad in Ainsworth, April 22, and tied for first place, with 169.

    Niobrara Cleanup and 35th anniversary program set for May 23

    Valentine, Nebraska — Area residents are invited to jump‑start the summer on Saturday, May 23, by joining a community river and road cleanup in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Niobrara National Scenic River.
