Scott Carl Grooms, age 55, of Valentine, NE, passed away peacefully on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025, surrounded by his children and loved ones.
Scott was born in Valentine to Edgar and Mary Lee Grooms. A proud graduate of Valentine Rural High School, Class of 1988, he later attended Southeast Community College, where he studied non-destructive testing. His career took him to Alabama and Texas before returning home to work alongside his father at Grooms Well Drilling. In later years, Scott became the Facility Manager at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Indian Hospital, where his steady presence and strong work ethic left a lasting impact.
Scott was most at peace outdoors whether deer hunting, fishing with his buddies, or walking fields in search of arrowheads. He also found deep purpose in the years he spent coaching Kyle and his friends in youth sports. Those seasons were filled with pride, laughter, and memories that stuck with him.
Above all, Scott loved being a dad. He was present for every game, every milestone, and every hard moment. He was Kyle’s biggest fan and the kind of steady, loving father every daughter hopes for. His kids were his greatest joy, and he made sure they never doubted it.
Scott had a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor. He was loyal, lighthearted, and always ready with a joke. He loved classic rock, especially turned up loud, and watching Husker football or volleyball. He was stubborn in the way only good-hearted men are: grounded, dependable, and full of grit. Scott is survived by his children, Kyle Grooms and Shelby Grooms ( Clay Billings); mother, Mary Lee Grooms; sister, Katie O’Kief (Craig); and nephews Brandon (Marissa and their son Waylon), Jake, and Logan. He also leaves behind many close friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Molly; and father, Edgar.
Our hero. Our heart. We’ll spend forever missing you.
