Ainsworth Star-Journal, Valentine Midland News welcome new ownership Just like a Hallmark Channel Christmas miracle, as the final hour was approaching for the Ainsworth Star-Journal,threeAinsworthbusinessmen joined forces to purchase the Ainsworth Star-Journal and keep the newspaper from ceasing publication. Kirk and Chelsey Peterson, Graig and Stephanie Kinzie and Clint and Katie Painter have combined their resources to purchase the Ainsworth Star-Journal from Rod and Kathy Worrell.

Lacey Lemmert wins 2025 Valentine’s Day Card Contest

Valentine, NE — The results are in for the highly anticipated 2025 Valentine’s Day Card Contest, and this year’s winner is Lacey Lemmert with her heartfelt and creative design titled Love is in the Air in Valentine.

Join us for a wonderful evening as the Valentine Area Arts Council presents Jason Gray. The performance is Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 6:00 p.m., at the Valentine High School Auditorium. This event is free to the public. A free-will donation will be taken at the door.

Borders Without Boundaries receives gift from Simeon School

Students attending Simeon School chose Borders Without Boundaries for their community service project this Christmas season. The critters living at the shelter will enjoy 88 pounds of dog food, 75 pounds of cat food, and an assortment of treats, toys, and towels.

Perfect weather for the Vets Club soup contest

The results are in for the first week of Vets Club soup contest, sponsored by Sandhills State Bank. Coming in first place was Stacie Wilcox with potato soup, second place was Brandon Parrone with Chicken Tortilla. Mitch Elliott made Mexican corn chowder and placed third. Donald McCleary took fourth with bacon cheeseburger. Round two will be held Friday, January 10.

New Year jolt near Brownlee

You may have felt a rumble on New Years Day if you lived anywhere near Brownlee. A 3.0 quake hit that area at 20:57 UTC on January 1, 2025, which is 8:57 p.m. The depth was 5.0 km. Ten people reported their experience at USGS.gov .
