Lincoln-As part of Fraud Awareness Month, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is shining a spotlight on fraudulent activities impacting recipients of Office of Economic Assistance (OEA) services. Our dedicated Fraud Investigation team is working tirelessly to investigate and prevent cases of fraud and card skimming to protect both recipients and the integrity of benefit programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Aid to Dependent Children (ADC), Child Care Subsidy (CC), and Assistance to the Aged Blind and Disabled (AABD).

Literature classes worldwide study Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), a great innovator of the short story. He wrote closely observed and deeply empathic slices-of-life with a great sense of humor — but the Russian-Lit-class-version of Dr. Chekhov often overlooks the vitality of his work in the theater. Theater-people like me know him as a playwright, the creative counterpart to the acting teacher Konstantin Stanislavsky, who directed and starred in Chekhov’s breakthrough play, The Seagull. Together with the other artists of Moscow Art Theater, Chekhov and Stanislavsky pioneered a new style of ensemble performance, focusing on the whole society, rather than one “main character.”

Thanksgiving is so much more than traveling to see family and eating wonderful food, it’s a time to think of all the blessings we enjoy and often take for granted. The greatest blessing of all is God’s gift of salvation which comes to us undeserved and fully paid for by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So many things to be thankful for, but the greatest of these is our Savior. This year, let’s take time to thank Him for His many blessings. Have a blessed Thanksgiving time with your family and friends.

Psalm 100 is sometimes called a Psalm of Thanksgiving. In these five verses the Psalmist gives the reader instruction to approach the Lord with a great stirring of gratitude. Some aspects of these directives are as follows; make a joyful shout, serve with gladness, sing as you draw near, know who we are in relation to Him and ultimately let your heart overflow with thankfulness. The last verse changes tone as the Psalmist gives the reason for such celebration and excitement. The reason is clear and powerful, the Lord, the Most-High God is good, He is merciful, and His truth endures. In our modern context that last verse speaks powerfully to us as well. This reason thanksgiving and celebration remain the correct activity for all of humanity is that God’s mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations. It is inspiring to consider that just as the Psalmist wrote those words so many generations ago, they still are relevant today and will be in every generation into the future. I want to encourage you to read Psalm 100 and as you do let your heart overflow this Thanksgiving season.
