Niobrara Valley Vineyards holds Ribbon Cutting, and celebrates 10 years

Family, friends, and colleagues gathered Friday, July 19, 2024 for the 10thanniversaryandgrandopening of Niobrara Valley Vineyards. Their adventure began humbly enough by growing grapes for the vinegary, but turned a corner and began making award winning wine, and yet another turn, and the Nollette family now has a facility that will encourage tourism; it’s a gathering space, allowing them to share their love of foods, and offer a unique get away for a week, or an evening of fun and pizza.

Valentine Public Library receives donation from SAF Wilson-Taylor Endowment

Valentine, July 17, 2024 – The Sandhills Area Foundation recently distributed $10,000 to the Valentine Public Library from the Wilson-Taylor Endowment. The Wilson-Taylor Endowment, managed by the Sandhills Area Foundation, is dedicated to supporting educational and community-focused initiatives in the region, specifically providing dollars to the Valentine Public Library and the Sandhills Area Foundation scholarship fund on an ongoing basis. Dividends received on this endowment, depending on market performance, are distributed periodically to benefit the local library and area scholars.

They’re held at Valentine High School and have the following speakers: Michael and Kendra Sibbernsen on the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project; Kent Martz and Greg Bragg, vendors of Ricoh/Pentax and Starfield Optics who will share information about their products; and Jim Sweitzer, an avid stargazer who wrote a book titled Dear Galileo, Letters from a Contemporary Astronomer to his Hero.

CCH Foundation presents $110,000 for Safe Place Infant security system to CCH

July 1, 2024, Cherry County Hospital Foundation members presented Cherry County Hospital with a check for $110,000.00 for the newly installed Safe Place Infant Security System. “The foundation is so happy to help with efforts to improve and upgrade the Cherry County Hospital and Clinic. The Safe Place Infant Security System will be a great asset in providing the best care possible to Valentine and the surrounding area,” said Foundation President Jessica Abbott.

Gov. Pillen releases property tax reduction plan ahead of special session

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen joined state senators Lou Ann Linehan (District 39) and Robert Clements (District 2), presenting a sweeping plan for property tax reform. The entire proposal would slash property taxes paid by Nebraskans by an average of 50 percent, representing the largest property tax cut in Nebraska history. Eight Nebraska CommonGround volunteers recently attended the National CommonGround Conference in DesMoines, IA. CommonGround Nebraska is farm and ranch women who have conversations with consumers about food. They are supported by soybean and corn farmers.

Troopers urge slower speeds as summer flies by

JULY 18, 2024 LINCOLN — High speeds are on the rise across Nebraska roadways. The Nebraska State Patrol is urging motorists to slow down to keep all travelers safe.
