Chocolates and roses are synonymous with Valentine’s Day. They are always a welcome gift but maybe this is the year you decide to give your Valentine something different.

Valentine's Day is about expressing love for special people in your life. One way to do so is to pamper that person as much as possible. That can mean starting the day off with delicious breakfast in bed.

Daily breakfast at Cody and Kilgore: cereal, toast, fruit, juice and milk. Daily lunch at Cody and Kilgore: salad bar, relish tray, bread, lettuce, fruit and milk.

The Valentine Ministerial Association will be hosting Sermons-ala- Carte this year at the Episcopal Church, 372 N. Main St. This year there will be no meal provided, just the worship service from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. for the following Wednesdays.

It has to be one of the very best mid-winter events in all of the land...well...for the area ranchers, farmers, families, friends, and those who just want to get out and visit! Valentine’s Main Street will have 19 pens of bulls for you to visit with and look over to see how well they’d pair with your herd. Some of the vendors are locals, others come from towns close by - Ainsworth, Springview, Cody, Kilgore, Thedford, and still further: Clearwater, Niobrara, Arthur...and others from out of state: Adrian, MN; Larchwood, IA; and Geddes, SD.

It’s an election year and two will be held. The first is the Primary Election, May 14, 2024; and the General Election, November 5. Along with these elections are filing deadlines. For incumbents, the deadline is February 15, at 5:00 p.m. CST, and for all others, March 1, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. CST. An incumbent is someone who is currently holding an elective office, even if they’re filing for an office other than the one which they’re currently serving.

The annual Bull Bash People’s Choice Quilt Show will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Nelsen Furniture, in downtown Valentine. Bring your favorite quilt and share with the community, any size, antique or modern, all styles, old and new are welcome to the Bull Bash Quilt Show.

It was the beginning of a brand new month, the weather was stunning, and thoughts of loved ones were running around in my mind. Valentine’s Day is coming up, an anniversary, and a few things left undone.
