A look back at the third quarter of 2023

We begin the third quarter review of 2023 with a debt of gratitude to our Founding Fathers who brought Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness to America! Happy Birthday United States! July 1, 2023 was the day for the Cherry County Demolition Derby. These were the first place results: Old School Feature #1, Joey Schultz, overall Old School MadDog; Feature #2, Eric Haase; Limited Weld Feature, Sam Williams; Bonestock Feature, Mike Kramler; Second Chance Old School, Andrew Graf; Second Chance Limited Weld, Sam Williams. Fireworks were set off as the night sky turned velvet!

January designated as Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Attorney General Mike Hilgers was joined by Lt. Governor Joe Kelly and Colonel John Bolduc and announced January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Lt. Governor Joe Kelly read and signed an official Proclamation designating the importance of the event. In addition, the Nebraska Human Trafficking Task Force (NHTTF) released an updated report outlining progress made in 2023 and highlighting plans for 2024.

Gov. Pillen temporarily waves regulations for truckers hauling fuel due to cold and snow

Lincoln – Governor Jim Pillen issued Executive Order 24-1 to provide an emergency waiver of federal hours of service requirements for fuel truck drivers, to prevent shortages. Nebraska is experiencing extreme cold temperatures, increasing electricity demand, which in turn increases pressure on power districts’ reserve fuel supplies. The order temporarily allows drivers to work extended hours to haul residential heating fuels and oils or fuel used to generate power for residential heat.

Troopers make over 350 weatherrelated responses, urge preparedness

January 10, 2024, Lincoln — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol responded to over 350 weather- related incidents during last week’s strong winter storm. From the start of the storm on Monday morning, January 8, through Tuesday evening, troopers performed 310 motorist assists, responded to 37 crashes, and assisted other agencies with 23 incidents.

We know it’s winter - but this past weekend was one for the record books! NOAA Weather in North Platte, said Valentine set a lowest daily maximum temperature of -9 Saturday, January 13, 2024, which broke the old record of -5 set in 1979.

South Dakota provides equipment, as state agencies continue addressing storm needs

Lincoln-Governor Jim Pillen is sharing his appreciation and state agencies are providing updates, as progress is made in the aftermath of a severe winter storm. An emergency declaration has allowed the state to seek assistance from South Dakota through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). As a result, Nebraska received two truck-mounted blowers and two loader blowers as well as crew support, which will help supplement crews from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), who have been working non-stop to reopen highways and local roads.
