The message of death and resurrection may be difficult for many to grasp. As Jesus prepared His disciples for His upcoming death in John 16:20 He explains, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.”

Many people have asked this question: “Why did Jesus have to die?” Here is the short answer – Life is only found in union with God, the life giver. Sin separated humans from God, and therefore brought death.

Last year I did a funeral for our church neighbor who made barb wire crosses, so I preached on the “Old Barb Wire Cross.” I used that same theme for Lent this year. I will give a short summary.

For centuries, people have tried to prove that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was a fraud, a fake, or a lie, but time after time, while doing their research, these skeptics have become believers in Christ and have turned from a life of skepticism to a life of faith.

Back to the Basics, is an expression that has been used when people get distracted or sidetracked and lose sight of what is really important and foundational. Many people today have lost sight of the basics when it comes to faith and religion. Whole churches and denominations have been caught up in the whirlwind of political correctness, cultural catch phrases and worldly whims and have lost sight of God’s basics. It’s time to get back to the basics of God’s word and to truths that have been accepted and taught by Christians for thousands of years.

This Easter season, we invite you to ponder the Savior’s atoning sacrifice and glorious Resurrection, which bless all of us. Through our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, we receive this message of hope: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world,” John 16:33.
