Dr. Thom Rainer of Church Answers estimates that between 100 to 200 churches close each month in the United States. The result of the closings is not oversaturation, but rather and inability of 21st Century churches to understand the changes in social patterns and how community members spend their time between work and family.

Interesting guest highlights places to visit in Cherry County

He was here for only a few weeks, but what an education the little feller got - not to mention all the people he met in his grand adventure. His name is Stanley. Stanley Lambchop. And Stanley has an interesting beginning himself. His brother Arthur noticed that Stanley had been flattened by an enormous bulletin board! He went on to become famous with the writing by Jeff Brown, and illustrations by Scott Nash. Flat Stanley was able to travel in an envelope due to his interesting size. And that’s the size that came to Twisted Willow Ranch earlier this year.

Farm and ranch financial clinics to be held

These clinics are for farmers and ranchers and their families. They are confidential, one-on-one sessions with an experienced ag law attorney and ag finance counselor. These clinics have been offered in Nebraska since 1989.

Jean Burge The annual Lakeview Church 4th of July picnic will be held at the Lakeview Church grounds starting at noon(ish). This is a community event, and all are invited to attend! Gary and Barb Peters enjoyed a short visit with her sister, Linda Nysse, of Michigan as well as her daughter, Kari, so Ryan and grandson Eli.

VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, June 4-10

Incidents/Arrests On 06/07/2023 at 11:51 p.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of West Highway 20 for a disturbance. A 51 year old Valentine man was arrested on suspicion of operating his vehicle while under the influence, resisting arrest, reckless driving and criminal trespassing.

Cherry County Hospital CEO Kellum resigns to go to Broken Bow hospital

Cherry County Hospital Administrator Kyle Kellum has confirmed that he has resigned as CEO and will be taking a position at the hospital in Broken Bow. Cherry County Hospital Board President Roger Dunn said they do not have a specific end date for Kellum, and that his contract says 60 days.

Two arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to distribute

Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott has announced that after a joint law enforcement operation with the Nebraska State Patrol and U.S. Postal Inspection Office, two individuals are in jail after attempting to receive over 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine through the U.S. mail in Valentine.

Help out the Red Cross with a blood donation July 6

Donated blood is a lifesaving gift most healthy people can give. The community is encouraged to donate blood July 6, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church Parish Hall to help those who have been seriously injured and need blood products to help them recover. It’s the blood already on the shelves that helps save lives.
