Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott has announced that an erroneous NEVCAP alert was issued Monday, November 7, 2022. A NEVCAP alert is an electronic notification system administered by the Nebraska Crime Commission and a private third party provider.

Michael Caley, a senior, has shown a significant amount of growth throughout the past few years. I had Michael in an English class last year and saw him take increased responsibility and appreciation for his education. This year, I have Michael in Study Hall and Badger Den and through conversations we’ve had, he shows genuine interest in many of his classes. He also makes sure to check in with me, asking me nearly every day, “So how are you doing today, Mrs. Hand?” I look forward to our conversations, admire Michael’s growth, and thoroughly enjoy having him as a student.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign

When the weather dips below freezing in Valentine, most of the city’s residents do their best to stay indoors as much as possible. But in 2021, roughly 132 community members volunteered to stand outside, braving biting winds and bone-chillingtemperaturesattimes to ring bells asking for donations. Since the Salvation Army first began collecting donations in kettles in the late 1800s, the organization has relied on volunteers to do the bulk of its bell ringing. The bell ringing season starts each year, the day after Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Eve; then the red kettles are packed away for the season.

Stoeger: The joy of teaching
