Scholarships

The Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher honorary, is offering scholarships to local young people who have chosen to pursue a career in education. Interested students with at least 60 college credit hours may apply. Please send an official transcript from your college to DiAnne McNutt, P.O. Box 43, Long Pine, NE 69217 along with a short statement (200-300 words) about why you decided to enter the field of education as a career. Applications need to be postmarked by August 24, 2022 and winners will be announced September 12, 2022

Half marathon held in Millboro

Lennox Lapsley’s Running for Healthy Hearts held their inaugural half marathon in Millboro, SD on July 16, 2022. The run was held in honor of Luke and Misti Lapsley's late son, Lennox.

Up to $200,000 in student loan relief for qualified medical providers

Lincoln – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is offering two incentive programs providing up to $200,000 in student loan repayment for qualified medical care providers who agree to work in rural and underserved communities in state or federally designated shortage areas. No local match is required for the next few years.

Applications for Emergency Rental Assistance Funds open through September 9

LINCOLN – The State of Nebraska has funds remaining through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). The ERAP funds are available to eligible individuals who need assistance paying prospective rent, back rent, and certain utilities – including gas, water, sewage, electricity, and internet assistance. The program will continue to accept applications through September 9, 2022.

Remember, NOAA Weather radar to undergo upgrades

As of July 11, the KLNX WSR-88D operated by NOAA’s National Weather Service in North Platte, is down for approximately two weeks for an important upgrade. Technicians will refurbish and replace the pedestal, one of the most critical components of the radar, which is necessary for antenna rotation and positioning to capture data in all directions. The components are extremely heavy and will require the radome to be removed by crane and replaced when the work is completed.
