29th annual Nebraska Star Party

The Nebraska Star Party is coming up this July 24-29, 2022 at Merritt Reservoir’s Snake Campground. Wednesday, July 27, at 1:00 p.m. at the Valentine High School will be presenters and kids programs. These programs are free and open to the public.

Burn Ban notice for Cherry County

A burn ban has been issued for Cherry County effective July 14, 2022. The ban primarily applies to permit required open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.

Vacation Bible School

The First Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School “Jerusalem Marketplace” on July 18-22, 6:30-9:00 p.m.. Ages four years old through 12th grade are welcome to attend, 7th-12th grades will be assistants in the Marketplace. For more information or questions call 402-389-1582.

University of Wyoming announces spring President’s List

The University of Wyoming lists the following students from Nebraska on the 2022 spring semester President’s Honor Roll. The President’s Honor Roll consists of regularly enrolled undergraduates who earned a 4.0 (“A”) grade-point average for the semester.

Walk to Remember to be held July 23

Healing Hope Ministries, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was founded by Denny and Karri Allen in March of 2016. The creation of Healing Hope was sparked by their own personal grief journey. On July 2, 2012, Denny and Karri lost their precious son, Asher, when he died suddenly at just 15 months old.

Farm and ranch financial clinics to be held

These clinics are for farmers and ranchers and their families. They are confidential, one-on-one sessions with an experienced ag law attorney and ag finance counselor. These clinics have been offered in Nebraska since 1989.

Micro-surfacing work will begin in Valentine area

Weather permitting, microsurfacing work will begin July 12,starting at the Sheridan/Cherry County line on US-20 and going east from reference post 111.94 to reference post 118.25, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Tomato Time!

Summer is a great time to enjoy tomatoes fresh off the vine. There are so many wonderful ways to enjoy tomatoes from a bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich, to mixing them with mozzarella and balsamic glaze, to roasting them on the grill. Other ways might include omelets topped with tomatoes, a fresh salsa or putting them in a pasta salad.
