Healthy individuals are needed everyday to maintain an adequate blood supply for patients in need Once a donor had made the commitment to give blood, it is important to take a few simple steps to prepare and help ensure a good donation experience.

Boiling city drinking water has been lifted

As of Saturday, April 30, 2022, the water from the City wells has been deemed potable. The City of Valentine has lifted the boil water notice for all customers.

Summer lunches for youth to be provided by Valentine Community Schools

As part of its efforts to ensure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer months, Valentine Community Schools is pleased to announce its summer meals site will be serving kids and teens. Starting on May 23, all kids and teens 18 and under can receive lunches free of charge.

Brown County Hospital awarded $871,336 USDA Emergency Rural Health Care Grant

These grant funds will be used to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and support immediate health care needs, to help prepare for a future pandemic event, and increase access to quality health care services, by completing work on a COVID-19 isolation wing and providing two new generators.

Burn Ban notice still in effect for Cherry County

Cherry County Emergency Management has issued a burn ban that was effective as of April 16, 2022. The ban primarily applies to required permits for open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.

Sandhills Area Foundation donates to Miles of Smiles!

The Sandhills Area Foundation was pleased to present a $1,500 grant to Miles of Smiles, a school based oral health program that was started by the North Central District Health Department in December of 2012. This program serves 35 elementary and middle schools within the nine counties served by NCDHD, which include: Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Rock, Keya Paha, Knox, Holt and Pierce. Miles of Smiles provides free oral health education, oral screenings, fluoride varnish, dental sealants and homecare supplies. The program costs the NCDHD about $10 per child, and they anticipate serving 750 Cherry County students.

VHS 2022 State FFA results

April 6-8 was the Nebraska FFA State Convention, in Lincoln, NE. The Valentine High School students received the following awards: Proficiency Awards Fletcher Larsen, first place in Beef Entrepreneurship.
