Celebrate spring and help save lives by giving blood or platelets

MARCH 22, 2022 – It’s officially spring! As the weather warms up and the latest COVID-19 surge continues to slow, many people are looking forward to meeting up with family and friends. At the start of this new season, the American Red Cross encourages the community to play an important role in helping save lives by making blood or platelet donation part of their spring plans.

Preserving Eggs Safely

Do you have chicks and enjoy fresh eggs? If so, are you looking for ways to preserve and utilize your fresh eggs? There are no safe approved canning methods for eggs. Two approved methods for preserving eggs are: pickling, if kept at 40 degrees or lower and freezing raw.

Nebraska Stories features blind hitting coach and animal whisperer

LINCOLN,(March 24, 2022) – A nationally recognized hitting coach may be legally blind, but he has set his sights on improving the swings of baseball and softball players using only his peripheral vision. His story is featured in the April 7 episode of Nebraska Public Media’s award-winning, local television series “Nebraska Stories.”

Valentine Education Association

The Valentine Education Association will be offering a $250 scholarship to a local college student. Applicants must be majoring in education and be a junior or senior in college for the 2022-2023 year. Applicants for this scholarship must submit a letter of application stating goals and reasons for majoring in education, as well as a resume with current GPA and two letters of reference. One reference letter should be from a school employee and the other from the community at large. The letters may be included with the application or mailed separately. The results will tell you what type and how much, if any, fertilizer is needed for the plants you are growing. Using the right type and amount of fertilizer is also good for your budget and the environment.
