In the U.S. News & World Report 2023 Best Graduate Schools rankings released yesterday, the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s primary care program ranked seventh out of 124 institutions across the country.

The Valentine Education Association will be offering a $250 scholarship to a local college student. Applicants must be majoring in education and be a junior or senior in college for the 2022-2023 year. Applicants for this scholarship must submit a letter of application stating goals and reasons for majoring in education, as well as a resume with current GPA and two letters of reference. One reference letter should be from a school employee and the other from the community at large. The letters may be included with the application or mailed separately. Many people don’t realize just how much sugar and calories they drink in a day. Sugary drinks are the leading source of added sugars in the American diet. These sweetened liquids include regular soda, fruit drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks, and sweetened waters. The flavored coffees and sweetened tea also count as sugary drinks.

Many Nebraskans are excited this time of year to begin preparations to preserve the great flavors of the growing season at home. One must follow step-by-step instructions from approved, research tested recipes to assure they preserve a safe home canned product. Spring has sprung and garden fever is in the air. What better way to get kids outside than to plant a garden? Making the whole garden experience a family affair can be an extension of the classroom in the outdoors. It also gives youth an opportunity to learn where their food comes from and connect them to nature.

The Valentine Rotary Club was once again most successful in contributing to their “Fish N’ Chips for Scholarships”program. Weather co-operation aided in attendance for this annual event of fun and fellowship and fish and fixins’. Through the most generous benevolence of our community and supporters we were able to raise funds for our local youth.
