Christmas music!

The lovely thing about living on the California coast was the mild winters. In fact there was year round promise from the weather man that nights would cool off to good sleeping weather and days would be a lovely year round 70 to 80 degrees. Only on rare occasions would the thermometer tip into the 90 degree range. The days felt like heaven. (Speaking of that weatherman: His name was Ronald MacDonald and he lived on the corner of our street. Yes, it’s true.)

Oh, the weather outside is frightful

NCDHD Miles of Smiles program offered in area schools

The Miles of Smiles program is a school-based dental program offered to ALL 35 elementary and middle school students within North Central District Health Department’s nine county health district. Miles of Smiles offers a complete oral screening done by a registered dental hygienist along with an application of an optional fluoride treatment. Even if you see a dentist every six months, this program can still aid your child’s dental care.

Survey shows COVID’s devastating effect on students and school staff

Lincoln-Staff shortages, mental health concerns and pandemic-induced stress are pushing students and educators to the breaking point, according to a survey of educators conducted by the Nebraska State Education Association. More than 3,100 NSEA members responded to the November survey.

Naloxone can save a life

Opioid medications are prescribed to treat pain from real and often debilitating conditions. When opioids are used incorrectly or by someone they are not intended for it can have potential deadly effects. The National Center for Drug Abuse and Statistics states that opioids are a factor in seven out of every 10 overdose deaths. Deaths related to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl increased 10% in the past year. According to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Nebraska's drug overdose death rate has doubled in the last 15 years.

Only eight days left to help the Salvation Army help others

The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign has raised $4,554 as of December 13, 2021. The goal is $7,000 so your help is greatly needed. Ninety percent of the money raised stays in Cherry County to help families with emergency needs.
