Gordon Wesley Hitchcock was born in Ainsworth, NE on May 19, 1943 to Howard and Edna (Pelster) Hitchcock. He went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on September 26, 2026. Gordon was raised on the family ranch 22 miles south of Ainsworth. He attended grade school at Raven District #3, and high school at Ainsworth High School. After a year working on construction, he ended up spending the rest of his life on the ranch.
On February 1, 1963, Gordon married his high school sweetheart, Shirley A. Seadore at Omaha, NE. Three children were born to this union: Jay Julian, Wesley Howard and Kara Lee.
Gordon’s favorite pastime was trap shooting and belonged to the Ainsworth Rod and Gun Club.
On June 16, 1986, Gordon was severely injured in a farm accident that, except for God’s grace, would have taken his life. For 40 years, he was gifted with the ability to farm and ranch.
Gordon served on the Board of Directors of Camp Witness for nearly 40 years and loved helping children be able to attend camp and learn about Jesus Christ. Gordon was an investor, but not in stocks and bonds. He invested his God-given wealth into the furtherance of the Gospel through supporting his church and missionaries.
He also invested in land and loved researching a piece of land and figuring out whether it could render enough income to make payments and interest and pay for itself over time.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Edna Hitchcock.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Ainsworth; children, Jay Hitchcock and wife, Krista of Friend, NE, Wes Hitchcock and wife, Joy of Sparks, NE, and Kara Hitchcock and fiancé, Gary Davie of Glenwood, IA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Leach and husband, Gary of Ainsworth; along with other family members and a host of friends, including the men’s coffee group that meets at Big Johns.
