Amend term limits to three vs. two?

Back in the day, I used to shake my head while watching state lawmakers work late into the night – sometimes till midnight – to get legislation passed at the end of a session. “You couldn’t pay me enough to do that kind of work for 12 to 15 hours,” I’d think to myself.

Reviving energy affordability

As American families make travel plans and assess energy costs for their farms and businesses during the summer, it is as important as ever to champion domestic production of affordable fuels. While gasoline prices in Nebraska are down 5.6 percent from this time a year ago, and diesel prices are down 5.8 percent, tensions around the world put supply chains and energy security at risk. In light of this, policies which embrace the capacity of American biofuels producers to meet demand, such as year-round availability of ethanol blends of 15 percent (E15), are crucial for an all-of-the-above, winning strategy for American energy affordability.

Although the session has adjourned, work at the Capitol continues through interim studies. These studies allow senators and committees to take a deeper look at issues that may lead to legislation in future sessions. Any senator or committee can introduce a study resolution, which is then assigned by the Executive Board to the appropriate standing committee or, in some cases, to a select interim committee if the issue falls outside a standing committee’s jurisdiction. Committee chairs then prioritize the studies assigned to them.
