NGPC director receives national distinguished conservation career honor

LINCOLN — Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director Jim Douglas received on September 13, 2021, the national Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies top honor, the Seth Gordon Award. Since 1970, the award has been given to those who have contributed a lifetime of achievement in conserving North America’s natural resources in the interest of the public trust, as well as contributing to the programs of the association.

Hills 2 Forest race results

Three local Valentine athletes competed in the Hills 2 Forest kayak and canoe race west of Thedford, floating 33 miles on the Middle Loup River Saturday, September 11, 2021. Winning the race in the men’s kayak division and setting a new record was Mike Huggins with a time of 4 hours, 5 minutes and 41 seconds.

Construction to begin for Merritt Reservoir

VALENTINE — A new breakwater planned at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area will protect a nearby boat launch and shoreline. The construction project is scheduled to begin this month as workers capitalize on the low water levels at the Sandhills irrigation reservoir.

Girls Golf places fourth out of 14!!

The Lady Badger Girls Golf team traveled to Gothenburg where they placed fourth out of 14 schools with 392. Two Lady Badgers medaled: Mekallyn Bancroft, 11th place, with 91; and Kaetryn Bancroft, 14th place, with 96.
