It’s actually been 12 years ago that the annual Andrew Claymon Memorial Fishing Tournament began, however, due to COVID-19, one year wasn’t counted. So we’ll celebrate Andrew’s life and remember him in the best way he knew how to live...on the water at Merritt Reservoir catching big fish, this coming Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Internet blackmailers are increasingly deceiving today’s youth into sending them sexually explicit photos and videos by posing as close-in-age peers or love interests on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, or gaming apps. This scheme is known as “sextortion,” and it is a serious crime.

4-H activities open to all youth this summer

The University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension Office in Cherry County is excited to announce summer events that are open to all youth, regardless of 4-H enrollment. 4-H is the biggest positive youth development program in the nation, empowering young people ages five through 18 to develop life skills and find their “spark” for hobbies and careers. Enrollment for 2022 Fair participation is open until June 15, but youth can get involved any time of year. To enroll, go to v2.4honline.com. VHS business students pitch their business plan

On Monday, May 9, 2022 nine Valentine High School entrepreneurship students presented their business plans to a panel of community judges at Mid Plains Community College in Valentine. These students were all enrolled in dual credit through MPCC. They have been working throughout the spring semester to develop these plans and prepare for this presentation. Carolyn Petersen Moore of MPCC, Kimberly Johnson of the Sandhills Area Foundation, and Monty Neiffer of Sandhills State Bank graciously agreed to judge these presentations.
