The Badger Effort Award is based on the school’s character education. Students who demonstrate Character In Action (CIA), responsibility, accountability, honesty, empathy, and respect were nominated by their classroom teachers and staff. The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the City Library meeting room. The following were in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Attorney Suzie Beel, City Manager Shane Siewert, Councilmembers Kyle Arganbright, Kalli Kieborz, Neil Wescott, Dave Dent, and Ross Brockley.

Colby Cady of Cody-Kilgore was named Honorable Mention for Mid Nebraska Activities Conference All Conference Girls Basketball and Peyton Sterkel was named Honorable Mention for Mid Nebraska Activities Conference All Conference Boys Basketball.

On the day of Bull Bash, the 9th Annual Running with the Bulls 5K Fun Run/Walk was held. There were 40 participants that morning for a windy, cold race.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can discover the outdoors by participating in the third annual Nebraska Fish Art Contest. This international art and writing competition gives young people the opportunity to highlight their artistic talents while learning about fish, fishing and aquatic conservation.

It’s time to go trout fishing again in Nebraska. Rainbow trout are being stocked in city ponds and lakes across the state in March to enhance fishing opportunities this spring, especially in urban areas.

For the owners of Brewer’s Bowling Center, Randy and Mary Mercure, it was the first time the bowling center had a perfect score, February 8, 2022. Congratulations to Mark Foster on bowling a perfect game.

The Cherry County 4-H “Badger Bots” FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics team competed at the Regional Qualifier in Henderson February 5, 2022. Team members include Isaac Utecht, Cole Boes, Allen Ward, Duncan Mosner, Tilden Foster, Kaden Garwood, Tyler Harp, Jhett Jespersen, Kross Kasner, and Dawson Fleagle. Coaches are Andrew Utecht, Michelle Garwood, and James Ward.
