The Cody-Kilgore Unified School held its biannual Alumni Banquet on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Cody Gymnasium. There were 63 Alumni in attendance.

Thanks to a new Summer of Youth grant that Valentine Community Schools received, students in Valentine will get to expand their learning in unique ways this summer. Beyond School Bells, an initiative of Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education, has selected Valentine Community Schools Badger Cub Club as one of the Nebraska communities to receive a Summer of Youth grant to support summer learning opportunities.

“I am so honored to have a spot in the Nebraska Department of Education Fine Arts Education EXPRESSIONS spring newsletter,” said art teacher Joan Swim. A kids fishing clinic was held May 6, 2023, at the Valentine Fish Hatchery, through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Zac Brashears and Stephen Isom helped organize the event.

The Badger Effort Award is based on the school's character education. Students who demonstrate Character In Action (CIA), responsibility, accountability, honesty, empathy, and respect were nominated by their classroom teachers and staff. Spend some time this summer in Nebraska’s state parks. During June, a variety of events are planned for those for all ages and interests.

Cody-Kilgore qualified three athletes in five events for the 2023 NSAA State Track Meet held in Omaha on May 19-20, and brought home four medals. Senior Utre Noreikaite started off for Cody-Kilgore with the Class D Girls Discus on Friday morning, May 19.

The Badger golf team’s season came to an end with eight place finish at Districts. The team played at Kimball, and out of 15 schools competing, shot a 397. Coach Devin Muirhead said, “We did not have an individual placer in the top 10 that would qualify for state.”
