The Lady Badgers began their Southwest Conference play, Tuesday, January 24, 2023, when they lost in a close contest and overtime play to Ogallala with a score of 42-45. Valentine - 6, 12, 11, 11, 2 = 42 Ogallala - 22, 6, 9, 3, 5 = 45 Tacey From lead in scoring with 14 points followed by Jayda From and Kinsey Buechle each with 9, Malika Monroe with 6, Kimber McGinley and Kaetryn Bancroft each with 2.

It was a cold one for anglers at the annual Cork Thornton Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament, held Saturday, January 28, 2023. Team results are as follows: First place, Marcus Dryak of Omaha, and Rex Brown of Niobrara -18.03 pounds.

The Cowboys played the Sandhills/ Thedford Knights, Tuesday, January 24, 2023, and lost with a score of 49-57. The Cowboys will host the Crawford Rams Friday, February 3.

The Badgers played Southwest Conference Monday, January 23, 2023, and hosted Broken Bow where they won with a score of 55-49. Jack Lancaster was lead scorer in the game with 19, followed by Andon Olson with 14, Seth Vavara with 10, Nathan Perrett with 8, Lex Larsen with 4.

The Cody-Kilgore Cowboys hosted the Colome Cowboys January 16, 2023, and lost with a score of 48-64. Stats weren’t available as of press time. Pictured above, Jasper Roseberry rips the ball away from a Colome Cowboy.

The Badgers traveled to Stuart where they lost with a score of 41-57. Scoring by quarters: Valentine - 9, 10, 8, 14 = 41 Stuart - 9, 21, 16, 11 = 57 Stats weren’t available as of press time.

Coach Ian Bish said, “Our girls are playing at a really high level heading into our conference tournament week. Tacey From continues to be on a terror averaging 20.75 points over the last four games.

The Cowgirls hosted Colome Monday, January 16, 2023 and came away with a win 46-36. Saturday, January 21, the Cowgirls lost to Sandhills Valley with a score of 26-33.

Coach Shane Allison said, “The Badgers had a full week of wrestling. Tuesday the Badgers hosted O’Neill and Winner. Thursday the Badgers traveled to Chadron to make up the triangular that was cancelled in December. Friday was the Chadron Dual Tournament, and Saturday was the Chadron Invite.

The 79th annual Heart City Coronation Celebration will be held on Sunday February 5, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Valentine High School. The Badger Alumni is excited for another fun night of celebration. Our royalty will be crowned at the Heart City Masquerade Ball. Join our Royal Herald - James Woodraska, and St. Valentine - Grace Maunu, as they prepare for the evenings Masquerade Ball. Tickets are available at Janines, Sandhills State Bank, and Young’s Western Wear. There will be a Heart City Heart Award as well as Most for Valentine High School honored for all they do for the community and high school.
