    Changing role of Sawyer Memorial Library

    An enduring entity for many years, Sawyer Memorial Library has changed and evolved to serve the children attending schools in Cherry County. From the start, Sawyer Memorial Library has been a unique organization.

    Bell Ringers needed

    Can you spare an hour or two to help the Salvation Army raise money to help families in need? Many spots are still open to ring the bells through December 24. Contact Lions Club member Shelley Pier at 402-322-5400 to get on the schedule. Ninety percent of the money raised stays in Cherry County.

    Valentine’s Heart of Christmas Parade of Lights was a great success, held on Shop Small Saturday, November 27, 2021! Winners of the Parade of Lights in the float category: first place Pumpkin Patch by Randy and Kristi Lurz; second place, to Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

    REGISTER TO RING

    When the weather dips below freezing in Valentine, Nebraska, most of the city’s residents do their best to stay indoors as much as possible. But in 2020, roughly 108 community members volunteered to stand outside, braving biting winds and bone-chilling temperatures to ring bells asking for donations. Since the Salvation Army first began collecting donations in kettles in the late 1800s, the organization has relied on volunteers to do the bulk of its bell ringing.
