The Sandhills Area Foundation was pleased to present a $1,500 grant to Miles of Smiles, a school based oral health program that was started by the North Central District Health Department in December of 2012. This program serves 35 elementary and middle schools within the nine counties served by NCDHD, which include: Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Rock, Keya Paha, Knox, Holt and Pierce. Miles of Smiles provides free oral health education, oral screenings, fluoride varnish, dental sealants and homecare supplies. The program costs the NCDHD about $10 per child, and they anticipate serving 750 Cherry County students.
