    Cherry County Tourism Board continues push for New Community Event Center

    For more than 30 years, community leaders in Valentine have recognized the need for a larger, modern facility to host conferences, events, and regional gatherings. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for 27 years and served on the Cherry County Tourism Board since 2021, I’ve seen firsthand how this need has grown along with our tourism industry.

    Memories stitched together

    Tucked away in the back of an old cedar cupboard, beneath the soft scent of wood that has guarded keepsakes for generations, rests a quilt whose story is far from forgotten. Its pieces - worn cotton, faded florals, and sturdy plaids - were stitched together by hands long gone, yet their presence is still felt in every square.

    All District Football Team announced for Nebraska Class C-2 District 6

    The Nebraska Class C-2 District 6 has officially announced its All-District football team, recognizing the exceptional talent and outstanding performances of student-athletes during the 2025 season. This year, Rhodee Hill from Hershey has been named District MVP, reflecting his remarkable contributions on the field.

    Badgers begin season on the road to O’Neill and North Platte

    The Valentine Badgers have two wins as their season begins. First up, December 4 against O’Neill, they won with a score of 65-43. Scoring by quarters: Valentine - 18, 22, 15, 10 = 65 O’Neill - 12, 13, 7. 11, 43. Isaac Cronin was the lead scorer with 21, Dominic Beebout, 13; Tryston Beebout, 10; Aiden Buckendahl, 7; Caden Stankoski and Jackson Huggins each with 5; Trace Buechle and Duncan Mosner each with 2.

    Community spirit Rejoices through the Sandhills

    One Holy Night Silver Bells and Candy Canes The Valentine High School Music Department presented a Very Merry Christmas concert Tuesday night, filling the Commons with festive spirit, sweet harmonies, and plenty of holiday cheer. Community members were greeted with a free-will cookie and hot chocolate table, as well as a sock drive - both helping support the department’s costs for sending students to honor bands, choirs, and conference events throughout the year.
