VHS students participated in UNK Honor Band and Choir clinic

Students from Valentine High School were selected to participate in the UNK Honor Band and Choir Clinic on January 29, 2024 in Kearney. Grant Springer played in the Honor Band. Marybelle Ward, Sari LaDeaux, and Neeley Cronin were selected for the Treble Choir. Titus Maunu, Patrick Caley, and Devlin Welch were selected for the Festival Choir.

It’s your chance at 4-H Luck of the Draw

Cherry County 4-H has close to 250 4-H members and 50 volunteers! February is 4-H Month and to celebrate, Cherry County 4-H is hosting their annual Luck of the Draw fund raiser Saturday, February 10, starting at 10:00 a.m. The “Luck of the Draw” will be held in The First Rail building on Main Street. All funds raised by the 4-H youth, leaders, and volunteers will be used for the Cherry County 4-H program. These funds support 4-H activities, programming, workshops, supplies, equipment, clinicians, trophies, ribbons, awards, scholarships, club and project grants, and exhibitor T-shirts.

LWCF, RTP grant awards approved by commissioners

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved grant awards for the Land and Water Conservation Fund Stateside Assistance Program and the Recreational Trails Program at its meeting January 19 in Lincoln.

Lamb receives Heart City Heart Award

Traditions are a great thing and Valentine celebrated their 80th year with the annual Heart City Heart award. Each year nominations are received, that are heartwarming and deserving. “We appreciate individuals taking the time to nominate others.”

Fog theory?

It’s not often that the Sandhills sees foggy days, foggy mornings, possibly, but not most of the day... or the next, or even the next. Yet, there have been four consecutive days of fogginess from Friday, February 2, through Monday, February 5, 2024. Kelo-land TV had an interesting theory on the advent of fog in the area and said to mark your calendars for 90 days to see what type of precipitation would be rolling in - just in time for April Fool’s day.

AG Hilgers announced settlements aimed at preventing hidden hotel fees

Lincoln — Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced that his office has reached a settlement with Hilton Hotels regarding the disclosure of hidden mandatory fees. The settlement is the latest in a series of Nebraska settlements with major hotel chains, including Marriott, Omni, and Choice, which have all agreed to alter their business practices.
