Barbara Florence ( Hahn) Colburn was born March 19, 1934 to Florence Emma and Otis DeWit Hahn. Barb was born in her family’s place north of Valentine. She peacefully passed away on February 2, 2024 in her own home.

Barb was born premature and she could fit in a shoe box. Her parents would open the oven door and set her on it to warm her up. She attended school at Harmony District 12 from kindergarten to eighth grade and then attended high school at Valentine High School. Barb worked while in high school to help pay for her room and board.

On August 31, 1952, Barb married the love of her life, Don Colburn. Don and Barb were blessed with four children. Barb worked many jobs in her time, some of which included: Sewing Hides, the dental office, delivering newspapers, wrapping meat at the Valentine Locker and her favorite, her thrift store, Heart City Treasures. She also sold Watkins, Tupperware and Avon for many years.

Barb was very involved in her community and a part of many different organizations. She loved gardening and baking and taught many lessons to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids about sewing, baking, cooking and gardening. Barb’s all-time favorite activity was buying new things. Whether it was new products off QVC or giving a new life to items from a garage sale, she loved giving gifts. Barb was always giving $2 bills and other various items. She also loved to be around people and could tell stories for hours, but she might have had to stop to grab a Coke in the middle of her stories.

Barb will be missed by many, but the lessons she has taught and the memories she has made with people will last forever.

Barb is survived by her husband Don Colburn; children Ken (Deb), Bill (Kim), Dianna (Loren) Hollers, and Dan (Jerilyn); as well as many grandchildren: Trent (Laree), Kendra (Tom), Lindsey (Jason), Lane (Megan), Chelsey (Andy), Saul, Levi (Liz), Angel (Ross), Elisha (David), Brittney (Tyler), Sarah, Danielle (Kurt), and Jade (Ryan).

Barb also had 31 great grandchildren: Kord, Cooper, Riata, Taylor, Lyndi, Garrett, Owen, Kaylee, Kassie, Jenna, Stella, Jude, Maddie, Miles, Charlie, Eden, Lucas, Basil, Frannie, Ezra, Grace, Caleb, Sara, James, Samuel, Jazzy, Dawson, Kase, Kade, River, and Bear as well as many nieces and nephews. Barb is also survived by her precious cat, Kit-Kat (Damn Cat).

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clayton, Bill, Cotton and Johnny Hahn, an infant sister, grandson Rocky Jo Colburn, and daughter-in-law Kathy Colburn.

Prayer service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2024 at Holmes Funeral Home in Valentine with burial following at Harmony Cemetery north of Valentine.
