Earl Jereld Brown was born in Valentine on July 29, 1939. He passed away January 31, 2022 in Hot Springs, SD.
He was the son of Dorothy (Brown) Layton and was raised by his grandparents, George and Anna Brown.
Earl enlisted in the US Army on June 12, 1958, where he spent 20 years of his life. He was deployed to Germany, Vietnam, and White Sands, NM to name a few. He received many awards and letters of appreciation including ammunition specialist and diploma for Chemical Center school, Fort McClellan, AL. During his final years in the service, he received his chauffeur license to drive colonels around, including Colin Powell. He was honorably discharged June 30, 1978.
He returned to Valentine where he worked for Ron’s Quick Lube and Tehrani Motors. In 1982, he moved to Crookston with his mother. He worked for Don Allard Car Sales and enjoyed haying for the Carver Ranch in the summers. His weekends were for the Crookston kids, taking them fishing or hunting. He had several places to play pitch and was always ready for a cook-out for family or to give others a ride to town. He loved to travel and fulfilled his goal to visit every state in the U.S., although his favorite was Canada. We will miss his riding mower taking care of dandelions and gophers.
Earl is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Mattingly of Athens, GA; four grandchildren, Vincent and Victoria Mattingly and Dolton and Kordel Brown; and aunt, Edna Montgomery of Boise, ID.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Layton and his son, Rodney Brown.
Earl will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Holmes Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
Earl, thank you for your service and sacrifice. He is in God’s Army now. Carry on Soldier...we Salute You!
