Eilean Lucille (Sharp) Lurz was born February 16, 1936 in Springview to Leonard Lawrence and Margaret Agnes (Kaplan) Sharp. She passed away peacefully January 31, 2022 at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 15 days.
She was the eldest of four children, followed by sisters Eletha and Katherine and then brother Merle. She grew up in the Sparks/Norden area until 1948 when the family moved to Valentine.
In 1952, she met the love of her life, Joe Lurz, Jr. They were united in marriage on May 8, 1954 and moved to the Lakeview area where they worked hand in hand for the next 57 years. To this union five children were born: Walter, Peggy, Lyle, Gary and Russell.
Eilean enjoyed gardening, pretty flowers, raising chickens and the new baby calves each year. They also raised hogs and were dairy pro ducers for many years. She was a hard worker, a kind and sweet soul.
She is survived by her children: Walter (Sonja) of Lakeview, SD, Peggy Turk of Wichita, KS, Lyle (Diane) of Utica, Gary of Mission, SD and Russell (Carlene) of Tekamah; five grandsons: Terry (Amanda) Lurz, Travis (Shantelle) Lurz, Michael Lurz, Jeff Turk andTed (Samantha) Turk; three granddaughters: Tiffany (Travis) Howe, Christina Eveland and Brittany (Garrett) Schroeder; thirteen great grandsons and two great granddaughters; and her brother Merle (Romona) Sharp of Valentine.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, parents Leonard and Agnes Sharp, sisters Eletha Lurz and Katherine Fisher, along with several brothers-in-law and sistersin-law. She will be remembered for her quiet caring ways and missed by all who loved and knew her.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Valentine Friday, February 4, 2022 with burial following at Harmony Cemetery north of Valentine. Holmes Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
