Ellen Jean Cross was born on August 20, 1959 to her parents, Thomas Haver and Mary Ellen (Baker) Cross in Deadwood, SD. She passed away peacefully, at home, on August 16, 2024.
Her parents worked in education in Spearfish and Philip, SD eventually settling in Yankton, where Ellen graduated high school in 1977. She went on to get an Associates Degree from Dakota State University in Medical Records in 1981. This degree is what brought her to Valentine. She worked for Cherry County Hospital for several years.
It was in Valentine that Ellen met the love of her life, Dan Roshone Jr. On May 7th, 1983 the couple was united in marriage. From this marriage she birthed three children, Shauna, Katelyn and Wade. The family moved to Lakeview, SD.
In 1987, Ellen started her venture at the Rosebud IHS Hospital. In 1993, was presented with the QI/RM Coordinator Award. She worked there until 1998, when the couple moved to Valentine, and she began working at the Cherry County Veterinary Clinic. She enjoyed visiting with clients of the vet clinic.
Ellen enjoyed reading and cooking. In her final years, her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Cross and brother, Brad Cross.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Daniel of Valentine; mother, Mary Ellen Cross of Yankton; brother, William Cross of Rapid City; daughters, Shauna and husband Sam Day and their children Harrison and Marietta of Crookston, and Katelyn and husband Cade Lines and their children Declan and Scarlett of McCook; and son Wade and wife Bobbie and their children Hunter and Stella of Valentine.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her name to the Sandhills Area Cancer Fund at the Security First Bank in Valentine. Cards can be sent in care of the family at 617 West 2nd St., Valentine.
A private celebration of Ellen’s life is planned at a later date.
