Galen R. Sherman, 69

Galen Roy Sherman, 69, of rural Valentine passed away Friday, December 16,2022 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.

He was born January 11, 1953 in Broken Bow, the son of Hugh and Roberta Lawlis-Sherman. Galen grew up 34 miles south of Valentine on the Hugh Sherman ranch. He attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated from Valentine High School. He attended Mid Plains Community College in North Platte.

On August 24, 1973, Galen married Jane A. Pound in Thedford. To this union three daughters were born Melinda, Loretta, and Amanda.

Galen spent his whole life being a rancher and cowboy. One of his biggest accomplishments in his life was purchasing the family ranch he grew up on. Galen always enjoyed telling jokes and stories to make people laugh. Ranching was always the love of his life until his grandchildren came along.

Proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Gary, Blaine, and Frank, his mother and fatherin- law Dale and Jennie Pound and many other family members.

Survivors included wife Jane of Valentine, daughters Melinda (Bill) Weller of Springview, Loretta (Brian) Stumpff of Imperial, Amanda (Trampas) Hasse of Ashland, eight grandchildren, Dorothy Jochem, Ely Weller, Amber (Connor)Weber, Heather and Tristen Stumpff, Ryleigh Jensen, Taylor and Alexis Hasse. Also many family members and close friends.

Memorial service for Galen Sherman will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cherry County Fair Grounds in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine is entrusted with service arrangements.
