James R. Ormesher, 82

James Russell Ormesher (“Rusty”) of Rayne, LA, passed away on the morning of April 15, 2024 at the age of 82.

Rusty was born on August 28, 1941, to James Edward and Helen Lydiatt Ormesher in Valentine. He was raised on his family’s working cattle ranch, 17 miles outside of Valentine.

He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, from 1959 to 1966, obtaining a Bachelor of Social Science Degree and a Bachelor of Laws Degree.

Rusty was an attorney for Dallas County, TX, from 1966-1979. He served 10 of those years as Chief Felony Prosecutor for District Attorney Henry Wade, where he tried over 100 contested jury trials without a loss. From 1979-2014, he practiced in a private partnership in Dallas, specializing in Trial Law, both criminal and civil, state and federal.

His first wife, Kathryn Farner of Valentine, and his sister, Janice Watts, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Baxter, daughter Dee Fritz, two sons, Ryan and Brad, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Stepson Kevin Lenderman and five step-grandchildren also survive him.

Rusty’s intellectual curiosity led him to explore and embrace conservative ideals in his later years. He became an avid student and supporter, publishing articles and papers on various related topics.

A brief graveside service will be held in Rusty’s hometown, Valentine, on May 17, at 1:30 p.m. This solemn occasion will allow family, friends, and community members to gather and remember Rusty’s life.
