Jane Howell was born on September 7, 1956 to Darrell and Dorothy Mundorf in Valentine. She grew up on the family ranch south of Wood Lake and attended the Wood Lake Elementary and Valentine High Schools. Many lessons were learned on the ranch in the hay field, driving a dump truck for road construction on Highway 20 and caring for the Wood Lake Cemetery.

Jane attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and later received a Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix.

On December 30, 1978 Jane married Bill Howell and they moved to Gillette, WY and later to Colorado Springs, CO where Jane became an elementary school teacher. Many of Jane’s students would return to her classroom just to visit as she was very passionate about helping and encouraging them. Her work over her 30 year career proved she was incredibly talented.

Over the years, the couple welcomed two children into their home. Jane’s children remember her as an incredibly loving and generous soul, who cared for them deeply and always encouraged their goals.

Jane was an active and dedicated member of the Methodist Church and would attend bible study regularly. She loved to cheer on the Huskers even though she lived in Colorado, but was also a devoted Bronco football fan.

After a 36 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Jane passed away in Loveland, CO on October 12, 2022. Survivors include her husband Bill of Loveland, CO. and children Rachel Howell (Matt) of Denver, CO and Blake Howell (Tori and son Jason) of Colorado Springs, CO brother Joe Mundorf (Donnie) of Valentine, sisters Julie Dewing (Cort) of Valentine, and Jill Burge (Randy) of Fort Collins, CO and many nieces and nephews.

Jane will be greatly missed by all those who knew her and will always be remembered for her smiling face and laughter which filled her life.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wood Lake Union Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jane’s life. Memorials will be given to the Wood Lake Union Church.
