Janice Louise ( Valder) Scripter was born to Willis Valder and Evelyn Frances ( Moffitt) Rollins Valder on September 7, 1941, near Tekamah. She passed away on October 3, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hillside Villa in West Point.
She attended various schools in Burt County, including Lyons, Decatur and Tekamah. She graduated from Tekamah High School in 1959. During high school, she was a member of Quill and Scroll, an international high school journalism honor society. After graduation, she moved to Omaha and began working at Mutual of Omaha.
On June 11, 1966, Janice married Gene Scripter in Omaha. They lived in the Omaha area for several years, then the family moved to Valentine. After the children were raised, they then divorced.
Janice worked as a health care provider in Valentine until her own health forced her to retire. In 2021, she moved to Lyons to be closer to family. She enjoyed crafts of all sorts, making hundreds of items to be given to others and often used as prizes at family reunions. Until recent years, she refused to miss the Valder family picnic no matter what. It was something she looked forward to and sincerely enjoyed. In 2023, she was no longer able to attend due to her health. Despite that, she made sure that she sent enough food to feed a small army.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gene Rollins; brother-in-law, Jack Barta; son, Kenneth Eugene Scripter Jr.; grandson, Shawn Bauer; and nephew, Martin Whittier.
Survivors include daughter, Trisha Scripter of Rapid City, SD; sons, Joe Scripter and Michael Scripter Billings of Valentine; sisters, Marleen Barta of Omaha and Karen ‘Sue’ Whittier (Bruce) of Conowingo, MD; granddaughters: McKenzie Scripter of Ainsworth and Samantha Scripter of North Platte; great granddaughter, Isabelle Scripter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
